Happy Fall

What a wonderful week!  Thank you for coming to “Back to School Night” on Thursday!  It was fun to visit with everyone.  If you think of any questions, please let me know!

Last week, we checked out our eyes and smelled some different scents and we explored some  It was so fun!

This week we will be continuing our discussion on our Five Senses and begin our discussion on Apples! Apples are a great way to study the life cycle of plants and learn more about seasons.  So, with that in mind, we will be graphing apples, painting with apples, counting apples, and eating apples. We are also going to celebrate John Chapman’s (Johnny Appleseed) birthday. That leads us right into Fiction vs Non-fiction.

Happy Birthday Johnny

Chapman!!!  Sept. 26th

(aka Johnny Appleseed)

We are looking forward to a fun week!

We had such a blast during our apple week. We identified 6 different types of apples and used our five senses to help us describe them!  We learned how they grow and what they look like in different seasons.

This month we will be focusing on plants, seeds, farm animals, and fire safety. Sight Words: look, this, is, like.
Letters: Aa, Hh, Nn, Rr.

Science: leaves, Autumn, temperature, wind.
Math: counting, organizing data, surveys, 2D/3D shapes.
Language Arts: sounding out unknown words, syllables, using descriptive words (adjectives), comparing characters, and using detail in our illustrations.
Author of the Month: Eric Carle.

Progress reports are posted on Blackbaud. These progress reports inform you about the first 30 days of school, focusing on your child’s strengths as well as any areas that need improvement. Please let me know if you have any questions about your child’s report.

Last week was so exciting! We are getting into the groove of school!
We celebrated two birthdays and had an apple tasting party. Everyone tasted all six kinds of apples and most everyone liked them all too! We made applesauce as well. That wasn’t as much of a favorite. I think it is because we left the peel on and we did not add very much sugar. Again, everyone was brave and gave it try! FUN!

This week, we will continue discussing apples, seasons and our senses. We will be working on our teens and compare number values.

Housekeeping:
There are several kids heading into school at the south crosswalk from

the park by the fifth grade. Please be aware!

Everyone is doing a great job with their mask! Truly impressive!

If you haven’t sent in a set of extra clothes, please do so. We have discovered that our hand washing stations sometimes splash!:-).

If you purchase school lunch it is a good idea to still send your child’s empty lunch box. That was if they have left overs they can take them home.

Hugs,
Laura Sanders

Hi Everyone!

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you and your families enjoyed the three day weekend and made some fun memories.  Last week went by so quickly!  Our class is finding our groove and things are becoming routine.

The themes for September are “All about me”.    We will continue talking about what makes us unique.  We will be discussing families, our five senses and the human body.

We also will be learning about trees and weather.  We will be talking about the life cycle of trees, trying to identifying patterns and checking out the weather.

HURRAY!  It looks like we are going to be in person on Thursday and Friday for short days.  Ms. Hart sent a detailed email about drop off and pick up and other information.  Coming in early will give us an opportunity to check out our campus and adjust to school life before everyone else is here.  It will give us a chance to make sure all of our safety practices work and get to see our classmates in person.

We are asking that the students send back their bins with their tool boxes, folders and workbooks.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

We are so excited to see our friends.
We are looking forward to a busy, exciting week!

Hurray!  Last week was great!  We are starting to get our routines down.

I am deeply thankful to all the parents, grandparents and friends helping and supporting our learning!  THANK YOU!

This week, we are talking about Elmer.  He is an unusual elephant who discovers it is better to be himself.   We will be learning and sharing what makes us unique.  We are working on the letter Ss; sight words a, I,  the, and said; numbers to 10.

Homework is to READ every night!  Also, start working on your self portrait.  We will present them next week and turn them in on Friday, Sept 11.

Thank you again for all you do!

We had a great first week! Thank you for getting your child to zoom school on time and helping us establish some important routines.  Everyone is doing a great job!  I cannot thank my parents and special friends enough!

Last week, we went to all of our specials and met teachers!  We talked about how we want to be treated and how we should treat our friends.  We put the alphabet together and counted our friends!

Our focus letters for the next few weeks are Mm/Ss, and our sight words are:   a, I, my, and said. Some fun ways to review these letters/words are to write them in sand, make them in modeling clay, or go on a word hunt around the house. We will continue to work on rules, routines, procedures, making friends, and having fun this week!

We are looking forward to another great week!  Thank you all for the wonderful emails and texts!  We will find our groove!

Hugs,

Laura Sanders

Homework:

Read every night!!!

Self Portrait Paper Cut Out

I will send home the outline on Monday, in the homework folder.

Make the outlined portrait look like themselves.  (Before beginning the project, ask your child to describe the color of their eyes and hair.)  You may use a variety of materials to complete this project such as beads, buttons, yarn, fabric, glitter, shoe laces, crayons, construction paper etc… Let your child be creative and decorate it anyway they would like. Even though this project will take some parent guidance, remember that your child can do most of the cutting, gluing, & coloring! Please make sure your child writes his/her name ON THE BACK of the cut out. Return the finished portrait on Friday, September 4th.  On Wednesday and Thursday and Friday of that week we will be asking our friends to share their portrait and tell about it!.  We will then be hanging these cut outs in our classroom. Have fun with this and I look forward to seeing them.
